Cambodia Does Not Require Tourists to Present Cash Deposit When Entering Country

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian government does not require tourists to present a US $1,000 or US $2,000 cash deposit when entering the country.

This announcement was made after a number of airline staff were found to have asked tourists to present US $1,000 or US $2,000 in cash before being allowed to board the plane.

"The Royal Government of Cambodia does not have a policy that requires tourists to bring US $1,000 or US $2,000 in cash to enter Cambodia," said a statement from the Ministry of Tourism.

The same statement clarified that officers at the international border would, only in certain circumstances, question tourists about how much money they have.

The Ministry of Tourism welcomes all tourists to visit Cambodia and asks that they abide by whatever entry requirements are in place.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, Hor Sarun, has further confirmed that the Royal Government no longer requires tourists to present their vaccination cards or take a rapid antigen test when entering Cambodia. The only requirements left are a customs certificate and a visa application upon arrival.
